“From his poetry, we know Jay’s addiction was all-consuming, and he was well aware that it could take his life. In fact, he wrote of his desire to finally bring an end to his pain by dying the way he had lived–as a drug addict. How painful is it for a parent to read that all their beloved son yearned for was an end to his own life? You can only imagine unless you have watched someone you love commit a slow suicide for 13 years. Only God can explain why one addict survives while another does not, but as parents, we struggle daily with feelings of guilt and shame that we could not save our son from his addictions…”
Jay Koch struggled with drug addiction for more than a dozen years until he finally died from an overdose at the age of 30. Like every other drug addict, his life and death brought sadness and sorrow to many other lives as well. One of the most significant concerns faced by loved ones is trying to understand.
After Jay died, his parents discovered a journal he kept that detailed his thoughts and feelings. This collection of poems is a powerful and painful glimpse into the life of a young man trapped in a situation.
As you read these poems, you will better understand why addiction can hold such a grip. You will walk with Jay through times of utter depression and resignation to failure as well as times of hope and progress.
The words are filled with pain and raw emotion.
These poems are published with the hope that they will provide encouragement to those striving to overcome addiction and understanding to loved ones walking with them on the difficult journey.

Before his passing, Marsh stated, “I have been a seeker, a struggler, and sometimes a stumbler. The good news is that Christ has not given up on me and has given family and friends to share the journey. As you read these simple sermons, realize I am proclaiming more than I can live up to. My goal is to point people to the Christ who can change lives. There is a great deal I have not understood about faith, grief, and following Him no matter what life brings. When all else is cleared away, all we really have is God. But the good news is that He is enough.”

Gary Moore, Wall Street veteran, commentator, and founder of The Financial Seminary skillfully uses Scripture, an experienced understanding of the economy, and artful insight into the political environment to issue the call that help comes when we look up. Tony Campolo says Gary Moore “transcends the easy answers of what is wrong with America being provided by those on the political right and finds that real sources of trouble lie in a moral deficit that has emerged in our nation over the past fifty years. Tapping into the rich treasure house of scripture he endeavors to explore what Jesus prescribed as the cures for our economic maladies.”
“Look Up America” will give you hope. You will realize that, even though it is a concern, the federal debt is not on the verge of bankrupting our nation. You will be encouraged to look at what God has done for us rather than fearing what we are doing to ourselves. The information found in “Look Up America” should be read and understood by every candidate running for office and every politician who purports to comprehend our nation’s economic needs. Author Dwight Short, in his first book “Kingdom Gains,” provided a very thorough explanation of Biblically Responsible Investing. In “Profit or Principles,” you will be motivated to investigate this type of investing. Every faithful follower of Jesus wants to be in the position to hear the Master say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” There is not really a conflict between being faithful to spiritual principles and earning a good return. Often, the only conflict is if the investor is unwilling to make the necessary changes to accomplish both.
In his third book, "Home is Where God Calls Us," Dwight shares the marvelous story of his aunt who was an early missionary in Africa. His passion for missions and sharing the Gospel comes through clearly in the historical account of this mission experience.

Carl White weaves a story of political intrigue with the kind of insight of one who has lived in Washington DC, though he never has. He also tells a story of personal faith and of the triumph of love like someone who has experience with both, which, after years of serving as a pastor, he has. Five minutes is not a long time, especially if your life depends on something happening. With a tenuous grip on life, the doctor assured Jack that if he could stay awake for five more minutes, he would live. As an Army infantryman, Jack Zimmerman stepped on an IED while on patrol. He survived, but he was not the same. He went from a healthy young man with a bright future to a man with no legs and severely damaged arms.
“Five Minutes: 300 Seconds That Changed My Life” is the account of how Jack rebuilt his life. He knew, waking up in an Army hospital in San Antonio several days later, that everything was going to be much different than what he anticipated. With a commitment to define and shape his life into the best new version possible, he built on the attitudes and actions that reveal wisdom far beyond what you would expect from such a young age.
